ISLAMABAD -- Educationists from across the country on Monday called for major changes in syllabus and a uniformity to divert young minds from extremism and help them focus towards building a tolerant society. The Vice Chancellors of top universities and academicians vowed to extend full support to the government in rooting out extremism, at a consultative meeting with Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, here at the Cabinet's meeting room in the PM Secretariat. The meeting, third in a row, and part of 'Prime Minister's Dialogue on the Nation' series, was aimed at gaining an insight into their vision and to use it for giving a definite direction to the nation. The participants said they can help the government by encouraging the youth engage in healthier activities and to fight illiteracy and intolerance in the society. Prime Minister Gilani said the government was fully engaged in rooting out extremism and terrorism from the country and sought the assistance of educationists in devising a national policy in this regard. He termed illiteracy the root cause of extremism and terrorism and said when combined with emotionalism, it becomes more lethal.
